Born during the Kosovo War in 1999, to provide hope, education, and inspiration to refugee communities in Macedonia, FilmAid International is a non-profit humanitarian organization through using film to assist refugees suffering the effects of war, poverty, displacement and disaster.
Working in partnership with various global aid organizations, including the United Nations High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR), FilmAid has brought information and training to more than 2 million people worldwide on public health and safety issues such as maternal health, HIV, cholera, and gender-based violence.
The FilmAid Principle: Communities Are The Source Of Wisdom And Empowerment
One of FilmAid’s foremost principles is that communities are the source of wisdom and the center of empowerment.
By harnessing the power of film, FilmAid’s training provides young refugees with skills and confidence they need to tell their own stories and to advocate for their own communities.
By helping such communities develop their own internal talents, FilmAid is able to produce life-saving information and life-changing stories to over 400,000 displaced and vulnerable people across the world every year.
The goal of FilmAid’s strategy is to empower the next generation to advocate for its own rights and community needs. By offering marginalized communities a way to share their own voice on the issues that affect them, FilmAid opens the door for self-advocacy and self-determination.
